warm the cockles

the cold has finally hit the northeast. today, while waiting for the bus, it was a balmy 9 degrees out, and i'm sure the windchill was something closer to a 'well digger's ass'. thank goodness my body temp is a bit higher these days, thanks to the little bebe growing in my belly and punching my kidneys.
but, if you're not fortunate enough to have your own growing belly furnace, or all the fat stores being pregnant affords you, then i recommend this recipe, that is easy and warm, and fairly lowfat. mister irving thinks it's just about the best thing since porn.

to your warmth:
CROCKPOT CHICKEN CORN CHOWDER
1/2 cup carrots, chopped
1 cup skim milk
1/8 tsp. pepper
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 potato, cubed
1/2 lb. chicken breast, but into pieces
2 (15 oz) cans creamed corn
1/4 cup dried potato flakes

Combine all ingredients, except for potato flakes, into your crockpot/slowcooker and cook on low for 5-6 hours. When finished, add potato flakes and cook on high for 5-10 more minutes. Serve in big bowls with fresh bread. (irving insists that it would be even better in bread bowls, but it's yet to be tried)

Cheers.
