sound off

"President Bush, facing blistering criticism for his administration's response to Hurricane Katrina, said Friday 'the results are not acceptable.'"
huh, ya think??!!!
wherever your political standings lie, it is absolutely apparent, i think, to the entire country and the rest of the world, that our president is useless.
the most telling quote from president bush yesterday, in a news conference, was that "no one knew that the levees would break, but now we have to deal with it" (paraphrased, but not much)...excuse me??
the louisiana government knew all along that the levees were unstable, that's why they asked you, you mr. president, to give them funding to fix them. and you specifically cut the funding to fix the levees to support your war effort in iraq.
or did you forget, about the war in iraq?? yeah, that's still going on, people are still dying, sorry to bring it up.
a quote from the director of FEMA to NBC yesterday about the desperate situation in the convention center, when asked, WHY was the government not taking care of these people, WHY have babies died of dehydration...he said, "the federal government just found out about these people today". WHAT!! with all of the chinook helicopters constantly flying over the city, what did you think that large group of people on the ground at the convention center were doing??? having a party??
did some secretary somewhere in washington forget to deliver the memo??
give me a goddamn break.
the bottom line for these people...they are poor. they are desperately poor. they are the kind of poor that most of the country can't even begin to relate to...they couldn't leave. i don't know if there is anywhere else in the this country where people are this poor. they have no minimum wage, there are people that live there still making 2 and 3 dollars and hour, if they're lucky. they had no transportation, they had no money for gas, what were they supposed to do, walk? the government knew this, they knew there was a chance that the levee would break, and new orleans would be leveled. as soon as they called for a 'manditory evacuation' of the city of new orleans, there should have been caravans of busses (even school busses would do) going through each neighborhood, taking the people that wanted to go, out of the city. and i'm sure, that these people WANTED to go.
but, that wasn't going to happen, because the people that had the means, got out alright...and who, honestly, really cares about the people that don't??
not the government, that's for sure.

again, i'm very afraid of this country. i'm not rich, i suppose middle class would be my social standing, but i can't help but see my face and the faces of my family in these people. they will need our help for a long time.
if there is a positive in all of this, it is the fact that president bush will now go down in history as the worst president this nation has ever seen.

please help them, we might be all they have:
